(Used in Herbal Medicine for the) short-term relief of occasional constipation.

Cautions and Warnings 

If an allergic reaction to one of the ingredient occurs, stop using and consult a healthcare practitioner. Discontinue use and consult a health care provider if you have rectal bleeding or fail to have a bowel movement after the use of frangula. Consult a health care practitioner if symptoms persist or worsen. Consult a health care provider prior to use if you notice a sudden change in your bowel habits over the course of two weeks. Reduce dose or discontinue use if you experience abdominal pain, cramps, spasms and/or diarrhoea. Use cautiously in patients with gastrointestinal disorders, or using hypoglycemic agents. Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if taking other medication. Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you are taking cardiac medication such as cardiac glycosides or antiarrhythmic medications.

Contra-Indications 

Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you have heart disease, high or low blood pressure, kidney or liver disorder, diabetes or edema (swelling of hands, face or feet) or are taking products containing diuretics, corticosteroids or licorice, do not use. Do not use if you have intestinal obstruction or stenosis, acute intestinal inflammation (e.g. Crohn's disease, appendicitis, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel), bowel atony, or severe dehydrative states with water and electrolyte depletion. Do not use when any undiagnosed acute or persistent abdominal symptoms, including nausea and vomiting, are present. Do not use if you have abnormal constrictions of the gastrointestinal tract, potential or existing intestinal blockage, atonic bowel, appendicitis, inflammatory colon disease such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, abdominal pain of unknown origin, undiagnosed rectal bleeding, severe dehydration with depleted water or electrolytes or diarrhoea.

Known Adverse Reactions 

Avoid with known allergy/hypersensitivity to rhubarb, its constituents, or related plants from the Polygonacea family. Stop use and seek medical attention immediately if you experience dizziness, confusion, muscle weakness or pain, abnormal heart beat and/or difficulty breathing.
